Wee the Band / Have Another / Wee the Band (2009)

Wee the Band’s debut 6-song EP, Have Another, attempts to blend a spectrum of genres that include folk, blues, rock, soul, jazz and even a touch of funk. The band’s mantra is to “compose songs that create up-beat vibes that lend themselves to crowd participation and happy times”. This is clearly evident, as many of the songs have an innocent and folky “major blues” vibe that almost borders on bluegrass. The lyrics are simple, to the point, and would fit right into an episode of Barney & Friends or Sesame Street. The use of 3 to 4 part backing vocal harmonies give the album a barbershop quartet feel and detract from the overall appeal of certain tracks. A more minimalist approach would most definitely increase the album appeal.
