New at PCR: DEVINE’S JUG BAND
Devine’s Jug Band / Terrible Operation Blues / Porto Franco Records / 2009
Local quartet, Devine’s Jug Band has released their second album, Terrible Operation Blues. While I’m sure this band would be a great live performance, some of their musicianship is lost on CD. For instance, the jug itself sounds more like a kazoo trying to provide percussion for each track. The album is consistent overall, but no tracks really seem to standout above the rest. The rags, blues, and stomps seem to sound similar in timing and orchestration.
The two tracks that rise above the rest are:
7. The Donald Rag
11. Rufus Rastus Johnson
For fans of Dandelion Junk Queens, and the Even Dozen Jug Band
