Jobless Benefits Extention and Highway Aid Logjam Broken By One Senator
Who says one vote doesn’t matter? It sure did on Tuesday when Senator Jim Bunning, Republican of Tennessee, buckled to pressure from fellow Republicans and Senate Democrats and voted to extend unemployment benefits for hundreds of thousands of the unemployed and to pay for fixing the roads.
By a vote of 79 to 19, the Senate voted to renew the programs, which expired on Sunday after Republican Senator Jim Bunning blocked their renewal.
